The Reason Behind the Name

I'm not one to talk hair, fashion, or makeup, but I thought I'd share with you the story behind the name "Mom and the Blonds."

There is an obvious reasons, of course: my husband and kiddos have blond hair...I do not.

It hasn't always been that way. When I was little, I had strawberry blond hair like my boys with natural bleach blond highlights. My mom has always had dark brown hair. I used to "lovingly" tell her, "Mom, I'm so glad I don't have dark hair like you." I know, I know, not very kind of me.

As I got older, the strawberry blond turned a bit more auburn. By the time I got married at twenty-one, I was adding highlights to make up for the "blond" I was losing. Now in my thirties, the blond is gone, and I have "turned into" my mother.  I love and respect my mom and am happy to be more like her each day...even with dark hair. :)

So the name "Mom and the Blonds" is an ironic reminder of the things I once thought were important mixed with what really is important...my family.

And it just so happens that the night before my first born was born, we ate a delicious dinner at a little Italian restaurant called Guido and the Blondes. We like to jokingly blame the garlic for our son making an entrance two weeks early.

P.S. After searching the web about the spelling (blond vs blonde), I found in some cultures the word "blonde" refers to females and "blond" refers to males.
